Employee Spotlight: Meet Andrew

Andrew is a senior product manager and has been a part of the Paycom family for more than two years.

When asked to describe his job, he said, “As a product manager, my job involves specking out new products as well as enhancing existing products for development. On any given day, I will spend time answering questions from the sales and service departments, brainstorming with the other product managers on a spec and meeting with development and quality assurance about current projects. Also, I frequently interact with the training team to explain new system functionality, so they can teach employees and clients.”

Andrew RWhat advice would you give a new employee for being successful at Paycom?

Be hungry to learn. Find something you’re passionate about and learn everything you can. With all of the opportunities at Paycom, it only takes initiative to find your place.

What’s the one word you would choose to describe Paycom, and why?

Growth. One thing about being at a high-growth company is that sometimes you may be asked to take on several different roles and projects in the same week! This has stretched me and given me a great opportunity to learn new skills and abilities. Additionally, there are many dynamic leaders at Paycom to learn from and their examples have allowed me to grow, both personally and professionally.

What is one thing you have learned that you did not know before working at Paycom?

The power of engagement. Before working at Paycom, I never experienced an environment where employees were engaged in their work. After two years of observing what happens when employees enjoy their jobs and actively pursue a common goal, I can see the true power of having engaged employees. Not only does the business benefit, but employees are able to advance their careers, achieve personal goals and accomplish more than they could by only focusing on themselves.

What’s your favorite thing about being a part of the Paycom team?

Whether it’s working on a new development or coming up with a solution to enhance the product, the best thing about working at Paycom is finding answers. While doing my job I’m able to stretch myself and exercise both my mind and creativity. It’s amazing to work for a company that encourages employees to be innovative.

Where has been your favorite place to travel?

A few years ago my wife and I went to Europe for two weeks. Italy was amazing! We had a great adventure landing in Pisa at 10 p.m. in the middle of a thunderstorm without a map. We also attended a MotoGP race outside of Florence and walked all over Rome.

Andrew What are some of your favorite hobbies outside of work?

For several years I have worked with the youth group at my church and I’m involved in summer youth camps as well. My wife and I have four kids – all boys – and being a dad is one of the scariest, most challenging and rewarding things I’ve ever done. My boys are into video games, so I sacrifice some free time to play video games with them.

If you could pick anyone in the world to have lunch with, who would it be and why?

My brother lives several hours away. I don’t get to spend enough time with him, so I would like to have lunch with him.
