Employee Spotlight: Meet Sam

Sam is an executive sales rep and has been a member of the Paycom family since July 2013.

When asked the one word she would choose to describe Paycom, and why, she said, “Authentic. Paycom was built on a foundation of authenticity from a product, culture and growth standpoint. I’ve never known a company that invests more in its technology and people than Paycom.”

What advice would you give a new employee for being successful at Paycom?

Be relentless. Your first year will be the hardest year of your career and completely test your mental toughness, but it’s worth it. You may be told “no” 100 times before you ever hear “yes,” but once you make that breakthrough, you’ll know it was all worth it. Also, be organized and keep it simple. This job is clearly outlined with goals and standards to ensure your success. One last thing: Do something that scares you each day. You need to push yourself out of your comfort zone daily in order to take yourself to new heights.

Sam's TeamWhat is your greatest accomplishment at Paycom?

I honestly think it’s hard to pick just one. I feel accomplished every time I bring a new client on board, however, the next one is better and more gratifying than the last. If I had to pick one moment, I would say it would be when I achieved executive rep status. I reached a point that, at times, seemed unattainable. Now, I have the luxury of attending trainings with other executive reps nationwide.

What makes you proud to work at Paycom?

The ability to impact clients’ and prospects’ lives every day. We take a consultative approach to our sales process, develop incredible relationships with our prospects/clients and can walk away after every implementation knowing that we made their lives better.

Where has been your favorite place to travel, and why?

Brazil. I toured Brazil for two weeks when I was younger and played soccer. Our team represented the U.S. and played in 12 different cities. In addition to playing against the locals, we did humanitarian projects and helped the communities in any way we could. The whole experience was humbling, and I hope to find myself back there doing it all over again.

What are some of your favorite hobbies outside of work?

I love traveling and being with my friends and family. Some of my closest friends are scattered throughout the U.S., so I make it a point each quarter to visit at least one of them and experience a new city. Also, I love playing soccer. I played at a collegiate level and recently joined a local women’s league to keep the dream alive!

If you could wake up tomorrow having gained one quality or ability, what would it be?

The ability to read minds, but only when I want to! I believe there are so many situations both at work and in our personal lives when you wish someone would come out and say how they are feeling. With the ability to read minds, I’d be able to help address thoughts/concerns immediately, rather than let them go unheard or unaddressed.
